Revolutionary Tribute to the Lasting Memory of Comrade Sharmistha
Comrade Sharmistha, was the youngest Polit Bureau member of CPI (ML) Red Star when she departed us on June 13, 2021 at the age of 45. COVID Pandemic, that ravaged the entire world during 2020-21, inflicted the biggest damage on CPI (ML) Red Star by taking away the lives of the two youngest and most active PB members in 2021. First was the demise on May 28 of Comrade Sivaram, PB member and then Odisha State secretary of the Party. Comrade Sharmistha left us on June 13, when the Party was still reeling under the severe blow inflicted by Comrade Sivaram’s departure.
Along with her role as the leading activist in many struggle fronts, with her extraordinary intellect and grasp on Marxist theory, Comrade Sharmishtha played a decisive role in PB in arriving at decision on crucial political questions. As General Secretary of AIRWO, Comrade Sharmistha was a consistent fighter against patriarchy in all its manifestations and took specific effort to take her positions to the attention of PB and CC comrades. Comrade Sharmistha always emphasised that the liberation of women from patriarchy and liberation of all oppressed humankind are insperable process.
At this critical juncture when the fascist forces are working overtime to degrade the status of women to that of subhumans based on Manusmriti, the worthy tribute to Comrade Sharmistha’s lasting memory is to carry forward the revolutionary tasks including the liberation of women from all obscurantist and reactionary forces, as resolutely upheld by her.
Comrade Sharmistha shall remain a source of lasting inspiration to the Revolutionary Movement!
