TUCI Press Release
Revolutionary congratulations to the workers and trade unions who made the strike a success
The strike on July 9th has rallied the working class of India for a living wage, job security and the abolition of the labour codes of corporate capitalism along with an eight-hour workday. Rather than stopping this at will or allowing this strike to become an annual symbolic event, the onus is on the working class of India to launch a nationwide movement to dismantle neoliberal industrial and labour policies. This task can only be accomplished through strong organisation of the 93 per cent unorganised sector workers and continuous class political awareness education.
Moreover, the imperialists and the ruling classes of India are developing the RSS as their first class organisation. The RSS is dividing, suppressing and controlling the working class in India through Brahminical fascism. It is disturbing the class consciousness and unity of the working class by exacerbating religious, caste, language and regional issues.
Despite such a situation, government, semi-government and organized workers, mostly from the unorganized sector, have participated in the strike on July 9. Samyukta Kisan Morcha has expressed full support. Organization building and political awareness among the unorganized workers is very weak. Even so, the number of workers participating in the strike is not small.
The biggest challenge of class awareness that the working class can solve its economic demands only through its political struggle is before the real left-wing trade unions at the center. This has been highlighted in this strike.
Therefore, the Trade Union Centre of India (TUCI) appeals to all the central trade unions in the country and the entire working class, especially the trade unions working in the unorganized sector, to come forward to build the Indian labor movement into a political movement of the working class. Because, Lenin’s statement that strikes are the training ground for revolution speaks of the political importance of the working class of the world.
This needs to be achieved in India, in accordance with the Indian situation, through a strong political movement of the workers of the unorganized sector, the real working class of India.
Revolutionary congratulations to all those who participated in the strike and supported it and made it a success.
