Resolutely Condemn the Detention of Com. Niranjan by Delhi Police after Forcefully taking Him from Party Office!
Delhi is going through severest air polution and a dense layer of smog with air quality index (AQI) being at an alarming 559 – a level considered “hazardous”, compared to ‘below 100’ as the “satisfactory” category. To put it differently, as per this pollution level, breathing the air in Delhi is equivalent to smoking 11.8 cigarettes a day! It is against this horrific situation that student organisations from various educational institutions along with concerned people are protesting government’s inaction on pollution.
However, Delhi police has unleashed a severe repression on students who are involved in this protest. As part of it, on 23 November, the police forcefully entered the Delhi Office of CPI ( ML) Red Star and took away Com Niranjan, Secretary, AIRSO (All India Revolutionary Students Organisation) and kept him under illegal detention for hours, along with others in different police stations under various charges.
We resolutely condemn this fascist repression on students including Niranjan for protesting against pollution, when, in the just concluded UNFCCC COP30 in Belem, Brazil, the Indian regime has been rhetorical in reaffirming its long-standing position on equity, climate justice, and the fulfillment of global commitments. We appeal to all democratic sections to come forward vehemently opposing this high-handedness by Delhi police, encroaching into Party Office and forcibly taking Com Niranjan, a member of the Party.
