Every speaker underlined the need for a collective struggle against fascism. AIRSO students sang revolutionary songs, which motivated and encouraged the comrades.

impact of Trump’s ‘America First’ Policy on Post Cold War European Geopolitics

The dramatic shift in US postwar strategic approach towards Europe, as part of Trump’s ‘America First’, “isolationist” and “protectionist” policy, has already sent shock-waves to EU headquarters. Among the series of steps initiated by far-right and neofascist Trump, the most striking is his tirade against NATO, the most powerful US-led postwar military alliance with its anti-Communist and Islamophobic ideological orientation. For instance, Trump is the first Yankee leader who openly declared that “expansion of NATO” was the reason for the Ukraine conflict. He also alleged that formation of 27-member EU was with the intention to “screw the United States”. Further, violating the established precedent of holding US-Russia talks in European headquarters, for the first time in postwar history, US-Russia talks on ending war in Ukraine was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, totally sidelining EU and ignoring Ukraine, which is nothing but a proxy in the inter-imperialist conflict between US-led NATO and Russia.

While putting the responsibility of Ukraine security on European shoulders, Trump, the chief imperialist master, in his unilateral proposal, has offered no security guarantee to Ukraine in exchange for the latter transferring it’s strategic rare earth minerals to be extracted by US Military-Industrial Complex. And, in spite of EU’s stature as US’ main postwar strategic political-economic and military partner, Trump’s stern warning on imposing a wholesale 25% tariff on EU has already sent shockwaves across its 27-member countries.

Meanwhile, even as the future of NATO in its present form is uncertain, and amid grave concerns among EU allies in NATO about US funding and commitment to the alliance, Trump has already entered into a deal with Putin for sharing the precious mineral resources and dividing the ‘spheres of influence’ within Ukraine, that has become a typical neocolony today. The reported ‘altercation’ between the master and his lackey, Trump and Zelenskyy, both far-right neofascists at their respective levels, in his talks with Trump, and the White House asking Zelenskyy and his entourage to leave the office, are not going to change the direction of Trumpian move to retreat from earlier neocolonial global commitments.

Trump’s deal with Putin will have its indirect impact on US approach to China, the latter being the closest strategic ally of Russia, and is even effectively contending with US. At the same time, Trump’s overall foreign policy being propelled by immediate corporate-financial interests of leading billionaire financial oligarchy in US, will definitely result in a re-configuration in inter-imperialist contradictions in the days ahead. In this sense, Trump’s reshaping of decades-old US-EU relations, that began with Marshall Plan or European Reconstruction Program, as a pillar of Truman’s Cold War against global Communism, followed by NATO, etc., is only the begining of restructuring of US foreign policy in tune with MAGA (Make America Great Again).

Trump’s plan of Gaza cleansing and permanent relocation of about 2 million Palestinians to other Arab countries like Jordan and Egypt and to transform Gaza into a seaside resort, is also in conformity with economic interests of America. His Ukraine plan is a replica of the ‘Gaza project’ that worked behind the superimposed truce between Hamas and Israel, which is now proved as a trap on the Palestinians. No doubt, the details of the geopolitical manifestations of ‘Trumpism’ are to unfolded in the coming days.

Bhopal. An important meeting was held at Hindi Bhawan, Bhopal on January 28 to establish coordination between various mass struggles against the displacement and environmental destruction in Madhya Pradesh. More than 50 activists representing 17 different public struggles of the state participated in this one-day meeting organized by Jan Sangharsh Coordination Committee Madhya Pradesh and Climate Justice Campaign (CJM) Bhopal. The meeting was chaired by senior co-leader Umesh Tiwari who led various public struggles in Baghelkhand area of Madhya Pradesh. The presence of renowned environmentalist Soumya Dutta from Delhi was remarkable, the program was conducted by Vijay Kumar and Gratitude Rajesh Kumar.

The meeting included tribal leaders from the areas affected by coal quarry, farmers displaced by large dams, representatives from local communities battling rural and mining projects on the verge of losing their land due to the Tiger Reserve. All of them shared their experiences and needs of the struggles going on in their areas. Representatives involved in the meeting said thousands of people have been forcibly displaced due to alleged development projects, statistics say about 50,000 families have been displaced due to various development projects in the state over the last five years. Most of these have not received proper compensation or rehab. Representatives said in a voice that local communities are being forcibly displaced from water, forest and land due to the current development model, which is not only affecting their livelihoods but also massively destruction of the environment. We all need to learn from each other to strengthen our struggles and challenge the current model of destructive growth. The BJP government in Madhya Pradesh is trying to crush mass struggles and divide on communal basis, need to strengthen its unity against it.

The meeting was formed a 15-member Bhopal supporter group including lawyers, journalists, technical experts and social workers. This group will support, technical, legal and ideological support to struggling communities. In the next three months, all the small and big struggles of the state will be connected to the Jan Sangharsh Coordination Committee. Similarly every six months Coordination Committee meeting will be held to discuss the progress and challenges of struggles. In the meeting, a pledge to unite the general public by rejecting BJP government’s “corporate-based policies” and politics of communal division.

Soumya Dutta, who came from Delhi, expressed deep concern over the climate crisis that human civilization has faced the hottest years in the last ten years, reflecting the failure of the current development model. They said the current concept of development must be changed to tackle the climate crisis. The current government is massively changing environmental laws to make the loot of corporate companies accessible. The current government is claiming to reduce carbon emissions on international platforms and on the other hand issuing licenses for mass coal and other fossil fuel mining to its corporate friends Adani-Ambani. They said we need an alternative model of development that is environmentally friendly and protects the interests of local communities.

Umesh Tiwari chaired the meeting said the nature and priorities of various conflict may vary, but the goal of all is one – protecting the rights of the environment and local communities. Today may prove to be a milestone in the history of people’s struggles in Madhya Pradesh. For the first time so many local struggles have come on one stage. We believe that only by uniting small struggles we can challenge the anomalies of the current development model.

During an interview on Al Jazeera Mubasher and Al Mayadeen, Dr. Maher Al-Taher, the Polit Bureau Member and the official in charge of international relations at the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), said: “The prisoner exchange deal, in its first phase, includes the release of a number of our comrades in the occupation prisons, including our women PB comrade Khalida Jarrar and the fighter Abla Saadat, the life partner of our Party General Secretary comrade Ahmed Saadat. The list also includes a number of male and female prisoners of the Popular Front.”

He said: “We congratulate our steadfast prisoners in the occupation prisons from all factions who have written the most wonderful types of steadfastness and defiance of the Zionist enemy.”

He added that reaching the signing of the exchange deal and the ceasefire would not have been possible without the legendary steadfastness recorded by our people in the Gaza Strip for 15 continuous months, in the face of a war of extermination in full view of the entire world. Al-Taher stressed that the main challenge we face today is the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, treating the wounded, bringing in aid, and addressing all the effects and consequences of the barbaric aggression on our beloved Strip and on our Palestinian land.

Al-Taher also stressed that our people will continue to stand firm and resist in the face of the Zionist plans aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause, stressing that our people will continue the struggle until they regain their full national rights.

The great national leader, Daoud Maragha, also mourned “Abu Ahmed Fouad,” saying: “With hearts filled with sadness and pain, we bid farewell to the great Palestinian leader Abu Ahmed Fouad, former Deputy Secretary-General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, who spent six consecutive decades, until the last moment of his life, serving the cause of his people and nation, believing in the option of resistance as a strategic option in confronting the Zionist enemy. This leader remained committed on his principles like someone holding onto hot coals, neither compromising nor giving in, believing in continuing the struggle until every inch of Palestinian soil is liberated.
