Tapa Mandi / Barnala, Punjab / 22 February / Today, under the leadership of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), a joint front of various farmers’ and workers’ organisations, pensioners, contract employees, and student organisations gheraoed the residence of AAP’s sitting MLA Labh Singh Ugoke and staged a massive protest. During the demonstration, strong slogans were raised against what the speakers termed the fascist Modi government and the Punjab government.

Addressing the gathering were BKU (Ekta) Ugrahan District President Chamkaur Singh Nainiwal and General Secretary Jarnail Singh Badra; BKU (Dakaunda) Dhaner leader Bhola Singh Chhanna; Krantikari Kisan Union (Buttar) leader Janta Singh Dhaula; Mazdoor Adhikar Andolan TUCI Punjab leader Comrade Labh Singh Akalia; BKU Dakaunda Burjgil leader Darshan Singh Ugoke; Punjab Kisan Union leaders Jagga Singh Badra, Binder Kaur Bhadaur, and Ranjit Kaur Patti Sekhwan, among others.

The speakers stated that the “fascist” Modi government is rapidly passing pro-corporate, anti-people black laws, which have pushed workers and farmers into worsening conditions, while benefiting highly corrupt crony corporate houses such as Adani and Ambani.

Labour leaders alleged that the Modi government is dismantling the MGNREGA Act, thereby increasing unemployment among poor workers and further worsening the condition of the toiling masses. They said that in the interest of domestic and foreign corporate houses, the government has scrapped 44 labour laws and implemented four anti-worker Labour Codes. Replacing the eight-hour workday with a twelve-hour workday, they claimed, will intensify economic exploitation of workers and employees while directly benefiting big capitalists.

The new trade agreement between Prime Minister Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump, they said, is entirely against Indian farmers and working people and will benefit foreign companies and big corporate houses. The leaders alleged that the Modi government has completely bowed before what they described as U.S. imperialist policies under Trump. They warned that the agreement would increase exploitation of farmers cultivating soybean, cotton, fruits, pulses, vegetables, and sorghum, and would severely impact the country’s agricultural marketing system.

They further alleged that through the Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 and the Seed Act, the Modi government is handing over crucial sectors to corporate houses, leading to privatisation of electricity and the withdrawal of facilities available to poor people. With poverty, inflation, and unemployment already severely affecting citizens, they claimed that 85 percent of the toiling and oppressed population now faces devastation.

For these reasons, the joint front of farmers’ and workers’ organisations has been holding protest demonstrations across Punjab in front of the residences of BJP and Aam Aadmi Party leaders against what they described as anti-people policies of the Modi government and the Punjab government. The leaders demanded that the Aam Aadmi Party immediately fulfill its electoral promises, repeal the new GRG law, the four Labour Codes, and the trade agreement with the United States, and abolish the contract system while ensuring permanent employment for workers and employees.

Other speakers at the protest included Darshan Singh Mehta, Malkit Singh Sandhu Kalan, Jarnail Singh Dhaula, and labour leader Nachhattar Singh Ramnagar.

On 14 February, Moolnivasi Sangh Chhattisgarh, with the support of various mass organizations, organized a rally and public meeting in support of the new UGC law and the firm implementation of the caste census, demanding the filling of backlog vacancies, and protesting against the persecution of minorities—especially Muslim and Christian communities—in the state in the name of a “Hindu Rashtra” by the fascist Sangh Parivar.

The procession began from Nalghar Chowk in the capital city of Raipur and marched to the Budhatalab protest site, where it culminated in a public meeting.

The chief guest of the program was Comrade Janak Lal Thakur, former MLA and President of Chhattisgarh Mukti Morcha. The event was conducted by Amarjeet Patel, Convenor of Moolnivasi Sangh Chhattisgarh.

Speakers included prominent intellectual Vishnu Baghel; Comrade Saura, State Secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Red Star; Comrade Tuhin, All India Convenor of the Caste Annihilation Movement (CAM) and the Revolutionary Cultural Forum; Advocate Bhanjan Jangde; Dashrath Ahirwar; Savita Bauddh Sankalpi, Convenor of the Buddhist Pracharak Wing, Chhattisgarh; Advocate Surekha Jangde; Advocate Shakir Qureshi, All India General Secretary of Rashtriya Muslim Morcha; Shyam Murat Kaushik, Convenor of Chhattisgarh Kisan Mazdoor Sangh; Akhilesh Edgar, Convenor of Progressive Christian Alliance Chhattisgarh; Advocate Katyayani Verma; Shagun Verma; Chandraprakash Dhidhi; retired Judge Prabhakar Gwal; and Jayashree Bauddh.

At the conclusion of the demonstration, a memorandum addressed to the President of India was submitted to government officials on behalf of Moolnivasi Sangh Chhattisgarh.

The demonstrators took an oath to defend the Indian Constitution drafted by Babasaheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and to safeguard democracy. They also resolved to unite all progressive democratic forces—including Dalits, oppressed communities, Adivasis, women, and minorities—to launch a struggle for the creation of an egalitarian society and against the imposition of a inhuman caste-based Hindu Rashtra and its constitution in the form of the cruel Manusmriti by RSS Manuvadi, fascist forces upon the 85 percent Bahujan Moolnivasi population of the country.

On 7 January, an anger protest meeting was organised in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh by the Migrant Workers’ Organisations Front (PMSM) along with allied organisations. This protest meeting was held against the killing / mob lynching of Ramnarayan Baghel, a migrant worker from Chhattisgarh, who was falsely branded as a “Bangladeshi” and murdered by the fascist Sangh Parivar in Kerala.

The chief speaker at the protest meeting was renowned human rights activist Bhawar Meghwanshi, National Secretary of the PUCL. The meeting was chaired by Comrade Lakhan Subodh, Convenor of PMSM and President of GSS. Ramnarayan Baghel’s wife, Mrs. Lalita, was specially present at the programme. The proceedings were conducted by Comrade Kaladas, State General Secretary of PUCL.

Other speakers included PUCL State President Junoos Tirkey; folk singer Asha Subodh; Advocate Priyanka Shukla; Comrade Manharan Yadav, leader of the Inquilabi Mazdoor Sangathan; Rameshwar Kurre of the Migrant Workers’ Organisation; Comrade Lakhan Singh of the CPI; Pastor Anishcharan; Comrade Tuhin, All-India Convenor of the Caste Annihilation Movement; Wahid Ali Siddiqui, State Vice-President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind; AAP leader Jasbir Singh; and former judge Prabhakar Gwal. Comrade Kaladas and Asha Subodh presented revolutionary mass songs.

In the protest meeting, it was unanimously resolved that the fascist RSS and its affiliated organisations—Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad—are responsible, both in the state and across the country, for spreading hatred and division, unleashing communal violence against minorities, especially Muslims and Christians, as well as against Dalits, oppressed sections, women and Adivasi communities, and for undermining the Constitution of India and the country’s pluralistic traditions. The administration was therefore urged to impose a ban on these communal organisations.

Demands were raised before the Kerala and Chhattisgarh governments to provide adequate compensation to the family of Ramnarayan Baghel. A resolution was also passed demanding that the Kerala government ensure strict punishment for the Sangh-affiliated, Manuvadi criminals responsible for the murder and take firm measures to curb communal fascist saffron gangs in the state of Kerala.

The protest meeting unanimously adopted a pledge to build united resistance—from Parliament to the streets—by all progressive democratic forces and the exploited and oppressed people against the fascist Sangh Parivar and its brutal, Manusmriti-based Hindutva state project.

Representatives of major mass organisations of the state participated in the anger protest meeting.

ndia’s Revealing Reluctance to Condemn US Aggression on Venezuela!

P J James

Modi government is showcasing India as the ‘Mother of Democracy’. However, India’s reluctance to condemn Trump’s blatant violation of ‘international democracy’ is very revealing. For instance, except India, all the other four founders of BRICS have already issued statements unequivocally and resolutely condemning Trump’s illegal and “unacceptable” military strike against Venezuela and abduction of its President Maduro along with his wife. On the other hand, after a day of silence, India issued a statement just expressing it’s “deep concern” on the situation without any reference to the illegal aggression on Venezuela by US in violation of all international laws.

For, Trump’s aggression on Venezuela is a flagrant violation of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter which is considered as the cornerstone of international law, obligating all UN members to refrain from the threat or use of force against another state’s territorial integrity or political independence, or in any manner inconsistent with the UN’s fundamental purposes. This core principle was adopted following WWII to prevent the horrors of colonial wars, by promoting peaceful dispute resolution, covering broad actions beyond full-scale conflict to maintain global peace and sovereignty. And, by unilaterally attacking Venezuela and capturing its President, through what is codenamed “Operation Absolute Resolve”, US imperialism under Trump is setting the stage for re-establishing it’s hegemony over the entire Americas, by invoking the colonial-era Monroe Doctrine.

In the past, for instance, during the 1989 Panama of invasion by US imperialism called ” Operation Just Cause”, in tune with India’s Non-alignment policy, along with then External Affairs Minister I.K. Gujral, the Indian Parliament had condemned the US aggression. India had this consistent position based on the principles of peaceful co-existence during the Cold War era. As such India had consistently opposed US interventions in Guatemala in 1954 and Grenada in 1983. Today, all these progressive traditions of India are reversed following the ascendancy of global neo-fascism.

Of course, Modi regime’s approach to the US invasion of Venezuela is not an isolated one. It is repeatedly reflected in India’s Islamophobic approach to the ongoing Zionist genocide in Palestine. At a time when all the oppressed peoples and nations of the world are unanimously condemning US imperialist-fascist aggression on Venezuela, India’s clinging on to the apron strings of neo-fascist Trump is paving the for its isolation from the comity of nations.

The post Growing Concern among Western Allies of Modi Regime over Surging Anti-Christian Violence in India! appeared first on CPI(ML) Red Star.

Of course, persecution, stigmatisation and targeting of Muslims, who comprise almost 15 percent of the Indian citizens, though a regular phenomenon, has not been a serious concern among the Western Anglo-Saxon circles. Obviously, this is mainly due to the shared and common Islmophobic ideological roots of both Western neofascism and Hindutva fascism in India. However, several incidents of violence and atrocities that gathered momentum in recent years against Christians, who form around 2 percent of Indian population, have raised serious concerns among RSS-BJP’s European and American allies.

No doubt, unlike the Anglo-saxons, enmity towards Christians is also part of the ideological orientation of Indian fascism. For, as explained by RSS theoretician Golwalkar, while Muslims are enemy number one, Christians are enemy number two for the Hindutva fascists. That’s why, with the State power under the firm grip of RSS, saffron goons are unleashed on Christians too across India. For instance, according to the United Christian Forum, 834 incidents of violence against Christians were recorded in India during 2024, a big jump from just 139 in 2014 when Modi ascended to the throne. These attacks were against Christian institutions, prayer gatherings, or even targeted against believers in public spaces. And often, the violence, intimidations and vandalism may be under the pretext of preventing “religious conversions” or in the guise of preserving ‘Sanatan Dharma’.

However, in 2025, the year when RSS is celebrating its centenary, as in the case of Muslims, the atrocities on Christians also have crossed all bounds. By November 2025, there have been 706 documented violence, regarding which the “double engine” states like UP and Chhattisgarh are much ahead of others. In continuation of this, during December, the month when Christmas is celebrated, multiple states in India witnessed unprecedented violence, vandalism and arson led by Sanghi street goons, specifically targeting Christian institutions. In many places Christmas celebrations were disrupted and showrooms selling Christmas-related items such as caps and dresses and other items, including even those sold by footpath vendors, were vandalised across India.

Though latest official response from Western regimes on these developments in India are yet to come, numerous unofficial sources have already released their condemnations. However, many governmental and non-governmental organisations, international bodies, advocacy groups and human rights organisations originating from the West in the recent past have vehemently criticised the Indian regime regarding the violence against Christians. For instance, the European Parliament, UK Parliament, the Vatican, the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues, European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ), Open Doors, International Christian Concern (ICC), Global Christian Relief, Release International, etc., have passed resolutions or issued statements condemning the anti-Christian atrlocities and calling Indian regime to take urgent steps to resolve the issue. Some of them have even asked the EU and US to use their political- economic influence to pressure the Indian regime and for linking trade agreements with religious freedom.

In the past, when such moves were there from the West, Indian government used to issue strong statements explaining them as mere allegations with a clarification that India is a secular country and hence such charges as “unacceptable”. It is true that, in spite of such pressures, Western powers have not resorted to any direct economic or diplomatic interventions in this regard, and were often adjusting with the Modi government’s explanation that it is capable to manage such internal matters with its own institutions. However, when the 2025 December atrocities and violence against Christians assumed a pan-Indian dimension (including even in Kerala, where Christian community has a relatively dominant economic and political clout on account of historical factors), Modi had to resort to some “face-saving exercise”.

As it’s manifestation, on 25 December itself, Modi attended the morning worship service at Cathedral Church of the Redemption in Delhi. After participating in the religious ceremony which included prayers, carols, and hymns, he posted on social media that the service “reflected the timeless message of love, peace and compassion” and expressed hope that the “spirit of Christmas would inspire harmony and goodwill in our society”. Modi’s participation, which has been reported as a “symbolic gesture” in view of country-wide violence and intimidation against Christians, got much media attention both in India and abroad.

However, this “face-saving exercise” is not sufficient enough to cover up the 555 percent surge in anti-Christian violence by Sanghi goons over the past decade. Its repercussions for Indian expatriates are manifested in their heightened concerns about their own safety in the countries they are living now. As such, they are not satisfied with the inadequate measures taken by the Indian regime to appropriately deal with the issue. Though US and EU governments have not taken an official position on the matter, several non-governmental and semi-governmental organisations from these countries such as USCIRF, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have alleged complicity and silence on the part of India. And, the USCIRF has even recommended for designating India as a “Country of Particular Concern” in this regard. To be precise, amid the much trumpeted self-declarations on “Vishwaguru”, “Mother of Democracy”, etc, what’s at stake is India’s erstwhile democratic credentials themselves!

Unnao Minor Rape Accused Kuldeep Singh Sengar’s Life Imprisonment Stay:A Planned Murder of the Judicial System –

Mass Protest Against Delhi High Court’s Unjust Order

Bhubaneswar, 27/12/25: The stay on life imprisonment of BJP leader and former MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the Unnao minor rape case in Uttar Pradesh has been opposed by various human rights and democratic organizations. Branding it as a planned murder of the judicial system and a miscarriage of justice, a mass protest was organized today at Protest Square (Master Canteen Chowk) in Bhubaneswar against this inhumane and unjust order.

The stay on the sentence of former MLA and BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the Unnao rape case has been legally flawed and problematic, according to various quarters, and protests are being held across the country against it. This Delhi High Court directive is not based on any primary evidence showing the accused as innocent; rather, legal experts have expressed that such a directive has been issued due to misclassification of the crime. In the Unnao rape case, the recent Delhi High Court directive to stay the sentence of former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar has sparked agitation in various quarters, as it overlooks the seriousness of the crime while following the interpretation of the term ‘public servant.’

In this context, various human rights and democratic rights organizations have immediately demanded that the Delhi High Court should cancel this unjust order and have called for the intervention of the Supreme Court to deliver justice to the victim.
Essentially, the court noted that a sitting MLA is not a ‘government servant’ under Section 21 of the Indian Penal Code. On this argument, it was concluded that Section 5(c) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, which makes sexual assault by a public servant a serious offence, is not applicable to him. The court further held that Section 376(2) of the Indian Penal Code, which also makes rape by a public servant an aggravated offence, is not applicable to Kuldeep Singh Sengar. Consequently, it held that the sentence of imprisonment for the remainder of his life awarded under this provision cannot be sustained.

But the court’s interpretation that an MLA is not a “public servant” for the purposes of Section 5(c) of the POCSO Act seems to be valid in view of a syllabus and technical textbook which adopts the definition given in the POCSO Act, the Indian Penal Code. However, if we disregard the application of Section 5(c), then Sengar can be held guilty of sexual assault of a minor girl under Section 4 of the POCSO Act, which is punishable with life imprisonment. Similarly, life imprisonment is also attracted for the offence of rape under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code. Even after accepting the Court’s view on the application of Section 5(c) of the POCSO Act, the order of stay of execution in a case involving life imprisonment for serious sexual offences is not acceptable.

Protesters like Pramila and Henarani of the All India Revolutionary Women’s Organization, Narendra Mohanty of the Campaign Against Fabricated Cases, Basanti Acharya and Mohammed Sukur from the Humanist Rationalist Organization, Debendra Sutar, Chairman of the Civil Society Forum for Human Rights, Deb Prasad Roy of the Lohia Academy, human rights activist Advocate Bishwapriya Kanungo, columnist Ranga Charan Pradhan, social activist Subhashini Bhadra, human rights activist Pradeepta Nayak, social activist Sharmishtha Nath, Rumita Kundu, Dilip Nayak , Arnapura, Jagannath Nayak, Puja Das, Kavita Jena, Rajni Behera from Basti Suraksha Manch, senior lawyer Khirod Raut, poet Lelin Kumar took the lead in today’s protest.
