Communist Revolutionaries in India are observing 28 July as Martyrs Day, the day when Comrade Charu Majumdar, the first General Secretary of CPI (ML), was martyred under police custody in 1972. It was in accordance with the perspectives of developing peasant struggles put forward by Comrade Charu Majumdar that the historic Naxalbari Struggle took place in May 1967, leading to the formation of CPI (ML) in 1969.
