*Suppression of Democratic Voices at Jantar Mantar Is an Open Display of the Fascist Character of the Modi Government!*
*Gyanesh Kumar Must Resign! Release All Detained Protesters Immediately!*
New Delhi, October 2, 2026: The Delhi Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Red Star strongly condemns the repressive action taken by the Delhi Police against the peaceful protest held today at Jantar Mantar, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and an impartial investigation into serious questions surrounding the electoral process.
Several protesters, including activists of the Delhi Committee of CPI (ML) Red Star and the All India Revolutionary Students’ Organisation (AIRSO), were detained by the police. They continue to be held at various police stations. This attempt to crush peaceful dissent through barricading, detention, and police force is yet another demonstration of the anti-democratic and repressive approach of the Modi government.
At a time when serious questions are being raised about the impartiality of the Election Commission, detaining protesters instead of addressing these concerns constitutes a direct assault on democracy. The Modi–Shah government and its police must understand that the constitutional rights of citizens cannot be crushed by force, nor can the government evade accountability or silence voices raising concerns over the crisis of democracy.
The action at Jantar Mantar is not merely a case of repression against protesters; it is part of a broader assault on dissent, protest, and civil liberties. In a democracy, questioning those in power is not a crime but a fundamental right of citizens. Raising questions about the transparency of the electoral process and the impartiality of the Election Commission is a democratic right of every citizen.
The Delhi State Committee of CPI (ML) Red Star demands the immediate and unconditional release of all detained protesters, an independent investigation into the police repression, and the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Public accountability must be ensured on the serious questions surrounding the electoral process.
We call upon all democratic, progressive, and justice-loving forces to stand united against the suppression of democratic voices at Jantar Mantar. Let us broaden the resistance against this fascist repression and advance the struggle to defend democracy, the Constitution, and civil rights.
