The protest held for 61 acres of surplus land which is irrigated and paddy cultivation in Raichur district Sindhanur taluk on August 24 was successful. The government has been given a week’s deadline. Similarly, the farmers’ KRS/AIKKS has also warned the family of Venkatarao Nada Gowda, the biggest landowner of the district, and his goons.
The government betrayed the land reforms brought in 1974 by not Distributing this surplus land to the landless and handing it over to the Ex- landlords.
6000 acres of additional land in Sindanur taluk has gone to Ex- landowners. Similarly, lakhs of acres of surplus lands are in the hands of Ex- landowners in all the districts of Karnataka. It has been announced that if the government does not take action to distribute this land, land acquisition movement will be carried out step by step.
This ongoing land struggle in Sindhnoor is a new chapter in the land struggle of the landless and Dalits of the Karnatak state.
CPI (ML) Red Star Party leader R. Manasaiah participated in today’s protest and explained the history of the revolutionary land struggle in karnatak led by KRS and demanded the Siddaramaiah government to proceed with land distribution.
