Lucknow. All India Revolutionary Women’s Organization Uttar Pradesh State Coordinator Anju said that the incident of gang rape once again in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency Varanasi is extremely shameful and highly condemnable. She said that to stop the increasing cases of rape in Varanasi, the Prime Minister himself should take cognizance and take strict and concrete steps along with summoning the police administration. She said that I strongly condemn this heinous incident and demand from the Uttar Pradesh government to arrest the accused and take action against them and take strict steps to stop such incidents from increasing.
AIRWO Uttar Pradesh State Convenor Anju said that according to reports, a 19-year-old girl from Hukulganj police station area of Varanasi, who wanted to become a sportsperson and worked in a hotel spa centre to strengthen her financial condition, was kidnapped from Pandeypur Lalpur area on 29 March and gang-raped for 7 days. During this time her phone was snatched from her. When the girl’s father went to the police station on 3 April to lodge a missing person’s report, it was not registered. On 4 April, the girl returned home in a drunken state and scared and after becoming normal in a day, she told everything to her mother. The girl’s mother lodged a report against 12 named and 11 unknown people on 6 April. In this case, the police arrested 9 people including hookah bar operator Anmol Gupta two days later on 8 April, others are still absconding. She said that it is a very serious failure of the Banaras police administration that a girl was gang-raped for 7 days in the city limits, in a hotel, in a car and it remained unaware of it. Whereas Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath announces every second or third day that “those who cast evil eyes on girls will not be able to cross even the next intersection”. But a girl kept bleeding on the roads in broad daylight and their law and order system kept sleeping.
AIRWO leader Anju said that it is also a very serious matter that how are the criminals who commit violence against women so fearless in Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh, which is the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi? Even before this, in 2023, a girl has been a victim of gang rape inside the IIT BHU campus, in which three boys associated with the BJP’s IT cell were arrested a month later, when the protests regarding this became very intense. After the release of these rapists belonging to the fascist Sangh Parivar, the saffron forces celebrated their release in a shameful manner. Even before this, girls of BHU have come out on the streets over sexual assault on girls in BHU.
Just a few months ago, a girl named Khushi was “made to disappear”. Such incidents are continuing in Varanasi, it is not stopping, which is extremely worrying.
In the current horrific gang rape case, I make the following demands from the Uttar Pradesh government –
1- All the culprits should be arrested as soon as possible and all of them should be tried in a fast track court by imposing the section of gang rape.
2- The girl should be provided a competent lawyer of her choice at government expense and she should be given justice as soon as possible.
3- Those police personnel should be dismissed, who refused to write a missing report on behalf of the girl’s father.
4- The girl should be provided with necessary physical and mental treatment, along with every kind of help in fulfilling her dream of becoming a sportsperson.
5- Necessary steps should be taken soon to stop the increasing rape crimes in Banaras and to create a fear-free environment for women.
