Resolutely Condemn Terrorist Attack on Tourists Visiting Pahalgam!

— CPI (ML) Red Star

CPI (ML) Red Star resolutely condemns the brutal and inhuman terrorist attack, killing 26 tourists on 22 April afternoon in Pahalgam, that belongs to Baisaran, also known as ‘Mini Switzerland’ in J&K. This is the first major attack on civilians since abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, that took away the Special Status of J&K. In spite of government’s claim on bringing back normalcy to the state of J&K, attacks on security forces are continuing without any let up, though this dastardly and targeted attack on civilians is a relatively new trend. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of all those killed.

Despite Baisaran and Pahalgam being a high-security zone, there was no security force at the time of the attack. It is reported that the police could reach the spot only after 20 minutes of the horrific crime. Though Modi regime speak about achieving normalcy in J&K, for which it justified abrogation of Article since the 2019, as the latest event shows, together with recurring attacks on security forces, the situation in J&K is far from normalcy; rather it is worsening.

Instead of utilising the latest terrorist attack as a disguise for intensifying the regime-led ongoing fascistisation in the country, what is urgently required on the part of the government is to take concrete steps to bring back peace and security for people in J&K at the earliest. For this, instead of rhetoric and propaganda blitzkrieg, what required is to take the people in to proper confidence and initiate consultation with all stake-holders involved. J&K is one of the most militarized regions, not only in India, but in the entire world. It is being proved time and again that this will not solve the problem. To be precise, rather than superimposing militarisation that alienates the people further, the badly needed approach in the present situation is a lasting process of peace and democratization in J&K.
