Without Breaking the US-Zionist Nexus, EU’s Recognition of Palestine is only Formal and Cannot Halt Gaza Genocide!
As of now, Palestine is recognised as a sovereign nation by 157 of the 193, i.e., around 81%, of the UN members. According to UN Charter, a Resolution by two-thirds majority of UN General Assembly (UNGA) is enough for a country’s admission to UN. However, the decisive criterion is the nine affirmative votes of the UN Security Council (UNSC) without a veto from any of its permanent members. As such, so long as the US exercises it’s veto, the belated EU recognition of Palestinian state is only symbolic with little defacto impact, and will not alter the official status of Palestine in UN. And, consequent on his close Anglo-Saxon allies’ resolve to admit Palestine as a full member of UN, Trump has lashed out at UN as a “feckless body” questioning it’s very purpose itself. Obviously, as all well-meaning people know, the entire UN system including its Security Council that came into being in 1945 by the initiative of US has been it’s neocolonial political tool throughout. The US has been consistently vetoing all UNSC resolutions critical of Israel, and it has done so at least 50 times over the years. As such, Zionist Israel has been extending it’s occupation of Palestinian territories by systematically committing holocausts upon holocausts on them only because of the support and patronage of US imperialism, number one enemy of world people today. Therefore, without concrete steps directly targeting US-Zionist nexus, formal recognition of Palestine is only a face-saving exercise by leading members of EU.
However, the situation can be altered, if this recognition of Palestine by EU and other leading countries is followed by economic sanctions and military embargo coupled with a strategic decision to immediately send peace-keeping troops to Gaza challenging the vicious US-Zionist nexus. Today, it seems a wishful thinking, since the very same EU members and even dependent neocolonial countries like India have no qualms to continue their economic and military deals with Israel, even as the latter is intensifying it’s unprecedented war crimes in Gaza. Though proposals for halting economic and military deals with Israel are there, except a few countries like Spain, many NATO members are still continuing their business with Israel. Thus, they are also complicit in the ongoing Gaza genocide like that of US and its Military Industrial Complex. EU leaders’revealing silence on the US patronage of Zionist war crimes is also related to this. Hence, EU members’ formal recognition of Palestine, while continuing with their trade and arms deals with Zionist regime, is like the policy of ‘running with the hare and hunting with the hounds’, and needs to be properly understood by peace-loving people the world over.
Still more problematic is the conditions associated with EU members’ recognition of a Palestinian state. Most important is EU’s condemnation of Hamas and the call, along with a few members of the Arab League, for disarming it. According EU’s two-state solution, a defenseless Palestinian state will have to coexist with the terrorist Zionist regime backed by US, world’s biggest military machine. This is another imperialist trap. Today, the Palestine question is there before the international community only because of the relentless resistance on the part of Hamas. Further, targeting of Hamas as the cause of the problem, that too at a time when the Zionist war criminals, supported by their imperialist master Trump, assert that a Palestinian state “will not happen”, emanates from the neofascist Islamophic orientation that’s dominant across Europe today. Viewed in this perspective, the proposal for a Palestinian state by EU and others envisage the installation of nothing more than a dependent puppet regime devoid of all scope for people’s resistances against imperialist-Zionist oppression in the days ahead. In fact, without a proper blue print for physical enforcement, mere recognition of Palestine at this juncture is an illusion. That too when Zionist criminals are encroaching over Gaza, totally exterminating and cleansing the remaining Palestinians from there, while Trump is still cherishing his plan of reconstructing Gaza as a tourist resort.
Meanwhile, it is heartwarming that in US and across EU, millions of people from all walks of life are rising up against their own regime’s pro-Zionist policies. In Europe, the sudden decision by many regimes to recognise Palestine is mainly due to the grassroots pressure created by domestic upsurges mainly by students and youth. And, it is increasingly becoming evident that people’s relentless struggle from below alone is capable to alter the inhuman policies of the far-right neofascist regimes. In this regard, the US is witnessing hitherto unknown levels of people’s resistance against Trumpism which is the decisive and last resort that sustains Zionist war criminals. No doubt, together with world people’s committed solidarity with Palestinians, the foremost force that’s capable to break up the vicious US-Zionist nexus now is the American people themselves among whom Trump and his coterie are increasingly isolated day by day. In the present context, a halt of the advance of far-right, neofascist Trumpism is not only indispensable and urgent for resolving the Palestine question but also for imparting death-blow to US imperialism, history’s biggest war-machine and world people’s number one enemy.
Solidarity with Palestinian People!
Down with US-Zionist Nexus!
