When US Celebrates its 250th Anniversary

by admin

Today, 4 July 2026, marks the US celebration of the “250th Anniversary of the Adoption of the Declaration of Independence”. The Declaration of July 1776, in its pursuit of fulfilling the “God-given destiny”, i.e., the freedom and Independence of the United States of America, among other things, had also pledged America’s promise that “all men are created equal and have the sovereign right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” It also has pledged regarding the creation of the US as the single greatest force for virtue, peace, prosperity, and greatness on the face of the Earth. In his formal declaration on 4 July, Trump has also urged all Americans “to proudly observe this day with all due ceremony to honor the glorious heritage, history, and accomplishments of our beloved Republic.”

However, for the world people, these claims and pledges are mere hollow rhetoric, and contrary to concrete reality. In fact, from the very beginning of the establishment of 13 Colonies, the whole trajectory of US ascendancy as world’s supreme power, both in the colonial period and under postwar neocolonialism, was filled with loot, plunder, horror and genocide. Under the camouflage of freedom and independence, the US regime from its very inception, was a perpetrator of holocausts upon holocausts on the Native Americans. Even Abraham Lincoln, who is worshipped as a pacifist and an “emancipator”, was deeply involved in the exterminations of defenceless Native Inhabitants of America.

The US was in the forefront of commercialising the slavery of African people. It committed horrific genocides on the inhabitants of the entire Pacific Islands ranging from Phillipines to Puerto Rico. Since the 19th century and continuing to the 20th century when capitalism transformed into imperialism, as the world’s leading imperialist power “without colonies”, the US made Latin America its backyard, and financially strangulated it.

Beginning with the dropping of Atom Bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and becoming the supreme arbiter of postwar neocolonialism, the horrors committed and bloody coups and ‘regime changes’ done by the US across the world know no bounds. The US horrors on the people of Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, and so on, are already documented. During the neocolonial-neoliberal period, at a global level, millions and millions of people have been murdered by the US in violation of all international laws and regulations, while keeping the UN System and all other postwar global political , economic and military arrangements at its disposal.

Of late, keeping the Zionist regime as its Middle East “military outpost”, the US has become the patron and co-perpetrator of the criminality and genocides committed on the Palestinians and the people of Iran. And, the US-Zionist axis of evil remains immune to all International laws and regulations.

To be precise, no regime on earth has or can ever surpass the horrors, genocides, crimes against humanity, and holocausts unleashed by the US. As such, when the US ruling classes celebrate the 250th anniversary of their Independence and once again preach about the high-sounding ideals behind the “God-given destiny” underlying their freedom, it is up to the world people, especially the working and oppressed peoples of the world, to have an objective evaluation of the US claims.

Of course, US imperialism is no exception to the “law of impermanence”. Under neo-fascist Trump’s MAGA and policy of “America First”, though the US is becoming more aggressive, the world is witnessing a shift in a century of US hegemony from a phase of unipolar dominance to a multipolar global order. And, Chinese imperialism with its own characteristics, which are different from Anglo-Saxon notions of imperialism, has already surpassed the US in the economic field and is effectively challenging it in other fields too. And in that sense, Trumpism, with its own inherent contradictions and consequent shift in geopolitics, and loss of cohesion in the Western imperialist camp today, is digging the very grave of US imperialism. It is high time on the part of the working and oppressed peoples of the world together with all progressive-democratic forces to rise up to the occasion and strive for a political alternative against fascism and Imperialism of all hues.
