Indian Regime’s Treaty with Zionist “War Criminals” is a Shame for the People!
At a time when the US backed Zionist regime is intensifying it’s holocausts upon Palestinians in Gaza, and even as the Netanyahu regime is increasingly isloated from international community, and even facing sanctions from the comity of nations, on 8 September 2025, the Indian government has signed a Bilateral Investment Agreement (BIA) with Isarael. Revealingly, the Israeli Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich who signed this Treaty with his Indian counterpart in Delhi, is on an ICC “arrest warrant” along with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu for committing “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity”.
India had a glorious history of solidarity with the Palestinians till the strengthening of pro-Zionist Hindutva politics in the country in the neoliberal period. India’s “Father of the Nation” Mahatma Gandhi had been a staunch supporter of an independent, secular and democratic Palestine, and he even vehemently opposed the Anglo-American superimposition of Israel over Palestinians. Now, under the Islamophobic Modi regime with its ideological roots in Hindutva or political Hinduism, this progressive tradition of India has been totally abandoned. Even as many Afro-Asian-Latin American countries and even a few EU members are cutting of bilateral relations with Israel (Smotrich with whom Indian regime has signed the treaty was banned by UK, Australia, New Zealand, Norway and Canada), India has been continuing its arms deals with it. On the other hand, following the ICJ ruling in January, 2024, Canada, Belgium, Netherlands, Turkey and Japan have suspended arms sales to Israel. And, during the last two years when Israeli war on Gaza intensified further, India has been supplying it’s blue collar workers to Israel who had to work as cannon fodder.
In fact, this new BIA now signed between Israel and India replaced the existing 1996 agreement, and further strengthens reciprocal investments between crony capitalists in two countries facilitating further job opportunities for Indian workers in Israeli construction sector. More revealing is the announcement of Smotrich that Israeli Ministry of Finance is examining the possibility of opening a representation office in India.
This shameless deal of Indian government with Zionist regime which is accused of war crimes is a shame for the people of India, and hence, highly condemnable. Underlying this deal with Zionist regime is the Indian government’s growing Islamophobic orientation. It is symptomatic of the deep-rooted Zionist-Hindutva nexus under the patronage of US imperialism. It is high time for all democratic forces to unitedly come forward compelling the Modi government to revoke this ignominious deal with Zionist regime at the earliest.
