Far-right, neo-fascist, Islamophobic Trump’s relaunching of the illegal war of aggression against Iran, now reaching its most terrorist phase, targeting civilians and strategic infrastructures including that of Iran’s oil production, blockade of Iranian ports and Strait of Hormuz, is now inflicting horrific levels of destruction on Iran. As part of Iran’s adorable resistance against the world’s biggest military machine, it is continuing with its retaliatory strikes on US military bases, inflicting immense damage over them across the Middle East. In spite of Trump’s claim on control over the Strait of Hormuz, it’s obvious that Iran will never cede its control over it. And Trump has cancelled all previous waivers that became part of the Pakistan-mediated truce that formally came into being on 17 June.
Even in this critical situation, the already defunct UN System remains as a mere edifice. Gulf monarchies are exposed as lackeys of US imperialism (and apologists of Zionism). And except for the usual anti-war statements, the ruling regimes of many countries are exposed as incapable to do anything. Trump’s unilateral aggression on Iran is continuing without any let up, even as the inter-imperialist contradictions between the US on the one hand, China and Russia on the other, are sharpening. While Russia’s direct involvement through military support to Iran is reported, China, under the cover of its usual anti-US rhetoric, is solely guided by its self-interest, and is taking advantage of the situation to strengthen China’s economic position and trade access in the region.
In this extremely reactionary global situation, where the International Communist Movement and progressive forces are weak and confronting many setbacks, this US imperialist offensive can be challenged only through the emergence of a powerful anti-imperialist and anti-fascist movement with a political program backed by the fighting unity of the working class and oppressed peoples of the world. Even to make use of the inter-imperialist contradictions in a critical situation such as this, the presence of an anti-war and imperialist movement at a global level is indispensable. To be precise, there is no short-cut other than a political leadership which is capable to effectively coordinate and lead the struggles of working and oppressed peoples of the world against imperialism and their lackeys, is the solution.
