TUCI Central Committee Press Release

The Trade Union Centre of India (TUCI) Central Committee strongly condemns the SIR (Special Intensive Revision) process, which threatens the voting rights of ordinary people, particularly the poor, workers, migrant labourers and marginalised sections. We denounce the growing fascist attacks on democratic rights and demand the protection of every citizen’s constitutional right to vote.

The imposition of the four new Labour Codes is a direct attack on the hard-won rights of the Indian working class. These codes weaken labour protections, undermine collective bargaining and strengthen corporate control over workers. TUCI demands the repeal of the four Labour Codes and calls upon workers across the country to unite against corporate exploitation and the anti-worker policies of the government.

TUCI strongly condemns the reported denotification of Jantar Mantar as a site for democratic protest. Restricting a recognised space for peaceful demonstrations is an attack on the fundamental right to freedom of expression and assembly. The working class, students, youth, farmers and democratic organisations must resist every attempt to silence dissent and suppress people’s movements.

The TUCI Central Committee appeals to workers throughout the country to join the ongoing student and youth movements in defence of democratic rights, social justice and constitutional freedoms. Workers must come out onto the streets in large numbers to challenge corporate capital, resist fascist attacks and build a united people’s movement against exploitation, repression and fascist rule.

TUCI calls upon all Central Trade Unions to take the initiative in launching and spreading a countrywide united movement of workers, farmers, students and Oppressed, youth against SIR-related disenfranchisement, the four Labour Codes, restrictions on democratic protests and corporate-driven policies. The time has come to build broad working-class unity and collective resistance to defend the people’s vote, labour rights and democracy.
